Wayne H. Ludwig, Jr.
Wayne began his professional career
as a Wastewater Plant Operator Trainee for Harford County Department of
Public Works in 1978. He took a rather diverse career ladder path as a
Plant Operator, Senior Plant Operator, Lab Technician, (even a Shop
Steward), Lab Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, Assistant
Superintendent-Wastewater, Superintendent-Wastewater and has been Chief
of Water and Sewer Operations for over 20 years. Harford County’s W&S
Operations Section employs 90 personnel, has a $17M operating budget and
oversees 3 major water and 3 wastewater facilities including the
soon-to-be ENR 20 MGD Sod Run WWTP.
Always interested in staff
development, Wayne has planned, organized and created training for
Harford County Government; Baltimore area community colleges; and in
1997 he began working with MCET.
His course “Basic and Intermediate
Activated Sludge” (001-84-3) was the first course ever certified by MDE
as state certified training when their program began in 1984. Based on
his experiences with his and other Maryland operations personnel,
Wayne’s main interests are creating and teaching science and math
related courses that are “Operator friendly”.
A member of AWWA, WEF and APWA,
Wayne has also presented several technical papers to regional and
national conferences of the Water Environment Federation.
Wayne holds an AA degree in Science
Lab Technology, BS degree in Chemistry from Towson and a Master’s
Certificate in Environmental Engineering from Johns Hopkins. He is
certified as both an Operator and Superintendent in Water and Wastewater
and he also serves on the Advisory Board to the Environmental Technology
degree program at Harford Community College.
