Susan B. Harwood Ergonomics
Training Program
for Nursing Homes
The Maryland Center for Environmental Training (MCET)
received an ergonomics-training grant from the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA).
This grant enabled MCET to offer a unique train-the-trainer program for
Maryland-based nursing homes.
The program was designed to help reduce ergonomics-related injuries at the
nursing facility participating.
Ten Maryland Nursing facilities were selected to
participate in this project. A free trainer-the-trainer session was
developed for and presented on-site at each selected facility.
The train-the-trainer program was then customized to meet the
specific needs and situations of each facility.
The on-site session w as
targeted at supervisors, educators, and facility managers, with the
objective of developing a group of trained instructors within each
participating facility.
Although the grant funding limited this opportunity to
10 Maryland-based nursing homes the materials are available by request for
Nursing Homes.
